Edvaldo Gonçalves Amaral SDB (born May 25, 1927 in Recife ) is a Brazilian Roman Catholic religious and senior archbishop of Maceió .

Life

Edvaldo Gonçalves Amaral joined the religious order of the Salesians of Don Bosco and was ordained a priest on December 8, 1954 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on February 15, 1975 auxiliary bishop in Aracaju and titular bishop of Zallata . The Archbishop of Aracajú, Luciano José Cabral Duarte , donated him episcopal ordination on April 20 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Nivaldo Monte , Archbishop of Natal , and Antônio Campelo de Aragão SDB, Bishop Emeritus of Petrolina .

On September 2, 1980 he was appointed Bishop of Parnaíba . On October 24, 1985 he was appointed Archbishop of Maceió . On July 3, 2002, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
