Johann Baptist Andres (born August 11, 1768 in Königshofen im Grabfeld , † September 24, 1823 in Landshut ) was a German historian , Roman Catholic theologian , philosopher and canon lawyer .

Life

Andres attended a grammar school in Münnerstadt . He studied philosophy at the University of Würzburg ; In 1786, Andres received a doctorate in philosophy. There he entered the Catholic seminary . His ordination received Johann Andres on 22 September 1792. The licentiate in theology he received in 1793. In the years 1795-1799 he studied history and jurisprudence , most recently at the University of Göttingen .

In 1802 he became a private lecturer , the following year professor at the University of Würzburg. In 1804 he moved to the University of Salzburg , where he acquired a doctorate in both rights on April 14, 1804, and held the chair of natural and constitutional law and the history of states until the university was dissolved in 1810 . He was dean of the law faculty from 1805 to 1806 and 1810 until the law faculty was closed in April 1811. Andres stayed in Salzburg after its dissolution and taught canon law and history at the local lyceum , the institutional successor to the university; on March 22, 1812 he was also a councilor .

On May 11, 1813, Andres became professor of canon law at the University of Landshut ; he replaced Anton Michel, who died on March 12 of that year .
