Johann Baptist Enderle (born June 15, 1725 in Söflingen (today in Ulm ), † February 15, 1798 in Donauwörth ) was a German baroque painter .

Life

The teacher of Johann Baptist Enderle was his uncle, the painter Anton Enderle from Günzburg (1700–1761), who among other things created the frescoes for the parish church of St. Peter in Tapfheim around 1750 . By marrying the widow of the painter Johann Reismiller , Maria Theresia Reismiller, Enderle came to Donauwörth in 1755 and acquired citizenship there . In 1796 he married for the second time, Ursula Schiffelholz from Wörnitzstein , which is now part of Donauwörth . Two years later he died in Donauwörth.

Enderle was known for the Christian Christmas story, which he repeatedly discussed . Its representation was genre-defining , an influence on later representations of this topic in painting and crib construction can be proven.

His early work includes the ceiling frescoes in the church of St. Stephan in Kirchdorf , a district of Bad Wörishofen (1753) and the painting of the parish church of St. Peter and Paul zu Genderkingen (1755).

His most famous works include the fall of angels in the choir of the parish church of St. Magnus von Unterrammingen near Mindelheim in Swabia , the Adoration of the Wise Men in Oberrammingen , Mary's visit to Elisabeth and the flight to Egypt in Oberrammingen, and the return from Egypt in Allerheiligen , a pilgrimage church near Jettingen-Scheppach , Günzburg district on the Danube .
