Johann Christian Heerdt (born May 4, 1812 in Frankfurt am Main ; † June 1, 1878 in Bockenheim ) was a German landscape painter .

Live and act

Heerdt first attended Heinrich Friedrich Höffler's painting school and then studied at the Städelschen Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt am Main with Adolf Johann Hoeffler , with the sculptor Johann Nepomuk Zwerger , with the architect Friedrich Maximilian Hessemer , with the painter and etcher Carl Friedrich Wendelstadt and above all with Philipp Veit , the Director. In 1836 he studied with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where he switched from portrait to landscape painting.

In 1836 he moved to Frankfurt with Alfred Rethel and Heinrich Funk . In addition to his own artistic activity, Heerdt also worked there as a drawing teacher at various schools. Many of the motifs in his landscape pictures, often with architecture, come from his travels in the Rhine region , the Taunus and most recently from Upper Bavaria and South Tyrol .

His sister Elise Heerdt was married to the painter Friedrich Wilhelm Delkeskamp . His daughter was the painter Emma Heerdt (1849–1936).
