Johann Dominikus Schultze (born June 16, 1751 in Groden ; † May 22, 1790 in Hamburg) was a German doctor and naturalist.

Life

Johann Dominikus Schultze came to Hamburg after his father Georg Heinrich Schultze had been elected pastor at St. John's Church in July 1758. He attended the Johanneum and the Academic Gymnasium . Here he heard lectures from the doctor and naturalist Johann Albert Heinrich Reimarus and the doctor and botanist Paul Dietrich Giseke .

In 1772 he went to Göttingen to study medicine , where he met Johann Friedrich Blumenbach and Georg Heinrich Weber , among others . In April 1775 he completed his studies with a doctorate . Settled as a doctor in Hamburg from 1776 onwards, he was elected doctor at this institution for the poor , where his father had been pastor for years, by the administrative council of the Hamburg factory and penitentiary . During his work there, he successfully campaigned for better medical care for the inmates. He died in May 1790 at the age of 39.

He was interested in natural history . In 1777 he was involved in the edition of the book Icones Plantarum , which had been produced using the natural printing process. According to a travel report from 1780, he owned a herbarium and numerous fossils . He was also involved in the creation of a new system by Joachim Friedrich Bolten for the determination of Conchillyen . This work remained fragmentary.
