Johann Friedrich Roth (born May 9, 1863 in Schwabach , Kingdom of Bavaria ; † August 23, 1943 in Jena ) was a German mayor and politician ( FVp / DDP ).

Life

Roth was the son of a master shoemaker. He initially worked as a primary school teacher for 14 years , including in Fürth . He then studied law at the University of Leipzig from 1891 to 1893 . In 1893 he acquired citizenship in Saxony and citizenship in Leipzig and received his doctorate as Dr. phil. Two years later he passed the trainee exam there and in 1898 became a council trainee in the trade fair city. The following year he passed the second state law examination in Dresden and then worked as a trade reporter in Leipzig.

In April 1902 Roth was elected mayor of Burgstädt , and in 1906 the election was for life.

From 1909 to 1918, as a member of the Progressive People's Party , Roth was a member of the Saxon State Parliament for the 13th urban constituency. From 1909 to 1913 he was Deputy 1st Secretary of the Second Chamber.

In 1912 it chose the city council of Zittau for mayor , but the overall Kreishauptmannschaft Bautzen refused to confirm. In May 1912 there was a debate in the Saxon state parliament about the background. In connection with this, Roth is said to have resigned from the Progressive People's Party .

From 1919 to 1920, Roth was a member of the DDP in the Saxon People's Chamber .

In September 1924 he was voted out of office as mayor by the KPD- dominated majority of city councilors in Burgstädt. As a result, Roth initially moved to Partenkirchen in Upper Bavaria before moving to Jena in 1934, where he died in 1943.

Individual evidence

  1. There is no evidence in the minutes of the Second Chamber of the Saxon State Parliament for the withdrawal from the party mentioned in Döscher / Schröder. There, Roth was a member of the Progressive People's Party until 1918.
  2. ^ The information given by Döscher / Schröder and apparently to be found in the literature on this basis about membership in the Saxon state parliament up to 1921 cannot be proven in the minutes.
