Johann Georg Hager

Johann Georg Hager (born March 24, 1709 in Oberkotzau , † October 17, 1777 in Oederan ) was a German educator and geographer .

Life

After helping out on his father's farm and going to school in winter, he was sent to Hof's Albertinum grammar school at the age of twelve . When he graduated from high school in 1730, he went to Leipzig University on a scholarship . He studied in all faculties and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . He became a member of the Leipzig Society of Freyen Arts and Sciences and in September 1740 was granted permission to hold lectures as a private lecturer at the university.

After Hager had refused a call to the Vice Rector in Zeitz , he became Rector of the Latin School in Chemnitz in 1741 . He held the office until his death, which overtook him on a trip to his daughter in Oederan.

Hager was an honorary member of the Imperial French Academy in Augsburg and the Latin Society in Jena .
