Johann Jacob Stolterfoht , also Johann Jakob Stolterfoht (born October 19, 1665 in Schleswig , † April 1, 1718 in Lübeck ) was a German physician, professor at the University of Greifswald and city physician of Lübeck.

Life

Johann Jacob Stolterfoht was a son of the Schleswig councilor and later Lübeck council pharmacist Jacob Stolterfoht (1623–1696) and his wife Elisabeth, née. Schröder. His grandfather was the Lübeck pastor Jacob Stolterfoht .

Interrupted by stays in Schleswig and Rhena , he visited the Katharineum in Lübeck and from 1665 studied Protestant theology at the University of Wittenberg , where he lived with Abraham Calov . After responding to several disputations , he graduated with a master's degree . In April 1687 he went to Rostock to Justus Christoph Schomer . As a Magister legens he gave a few lectures, but then decided to study human medicine. He became part of Johann Gerdes' private college and went with this to the University of Greifswald . In 1692 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD.

In the same year he went on a study trip to the Netherlands and England , from there via the Netherlands and southern Germany to Italy. The return journey took him in 1693 via Vienna , Leipzig and Frankfurt an der Oder .

In 1693 he was appointed second professor of medicine in Greifswald. In 1698 he decided to return to Lübeck and practice as a doctor here. On August 22, 1708 the Lübeck council appointed him to the second and on July 6, 1712 to the first city physicist, each as successor to Johann Nolto .

He owned an extensive library and medical study collection.

Since 1693 he was married to Dorothea Elisabeth, b. Rango, daughter of Konrad Tiburtius Rango . However, she died in 1694. In 1697 he married Gertrud, b. Nummen, a daughter of the businessman Peter Nummen and stepdaughter of the doctor Johannes Friedrich Müller. Two sons from the second marriage died in childhood; only one daughter, Gertrud Elisabeth, survived him.
