Ferdinand Thierry (Johann Anton Ferdinand Thierry, * 1777 in Bruchsal , † April 4, 1833 in Heidelberg ) was a German architect and builder of classicism . From 1805 Thierry was Baden district master builder in Mörsberg and Konstanz, from 1820 master builder in Heidelberg. Thierry was best known for his church buildings and town halls.

Life

Thierry was a student of the famous Baden architect Friedrich Weinbrenner from Karlsruhe . Thanks to his mentor's support and his talent for planning, he was quickly able to get into influential positions in the government of the Grand Duchy of Baden. So he was able to rise to the position of master builder and district building inspector in Baden. Thierry's works reflect the development of classicist architecture that shaped Friedrich Weinbrenner ( Weinbrenner style ), and which several of his students continued. His best-known building is the Palais Boisserée he converted in Heidelberg's old town. The building became known through the brothers Sulpiz and Melchior Boisserée , who housed their collection of old German paintings there. Towards the end of his life he worked with his brother Wilhelm Thierry on the interior of Heidecksburg Castle in Rudolstadt .

Thierry was the head of the technical college for construction, a forerunner of the Polytechnic in Karlsruhe.
