Johanna Annikki Ikonen (born January 9, 1969 in Eno , North Karelia ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who has been working as a coach since the end of her career and was most recently employed by OSC Berlin until December 2014 .
Career
Johanna Ikonen began her career at Kiekko-Pojat Joensuu and also played for HIFK Helsinki , Keravan Shakers , Kiekko-Espoo and IHK Helsinki in the course of her career, which lasted from 1988 to 1989 . With the Keravan Shakers she won the Finnish championship in 1994, 1995 and 1996.
International
At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , she won the bronze medal in the Olympic ice hockey tournament with the Finnish national team . She was on the ice in six games, with the Finn scoring four goals and one assist. In addition, Ikonen spent six minutes in the penalty box. At world championships she made a total of 20 games for Finland between 1990 and 1997, in which Ikonen recorded nine goals and seven assists. There are also ten penalty minutes on her personal balance sheet. In 1990, 1992, 1994 and 1997 she won the bronze medal with Finland.
As a trainer
In 1994 she began working as a trainer parallel to active ice hockey. At first she looked after the juniors from Kiekko-Pojat Joensuu and the U16 team of the Helsinki Chamber of Commerce . After the end of her career, she was the head coach of the women's teams at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Espoo Blues , winning two Finnish championships and one runner-up. Between 2001 and 2002 she was also the coach of the Finnish U20 junior team.
In the 2009/10 season she was the head coach of the Enon Jets , a men's amateur team from the 3rd division, which is based in her hometown.
Before the 2011/12 season she was hired by the OSC Berlin as René Bielke's assistant trainer . Since he retired in November 2011 for personal reasons, Ikonen took over the post of head coach of the women's ice hockey Bundesliga team of the OSC Berlin. In December 2014 she left the OSC Berlin.
Ikonen has been the head coach of the DEC Salzburg Eagles since 2017 .
