The Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium is one of two general education , state high schools in the city of Leonberg near Stuttgart with around 685 students in 29 classes and 60 teachers (as of October 2005). The school was named after the astronomer Johannes Kepler , who attended the Latin school in Leonberg for a few years .
history
The Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium was founded in 1967 as a Progymnasium because the city's only gymnasium at the time, the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium , was no longer sufficient. Five years later, in June 1972, the first Abitur was passed.
In September 1972 the school was moved to the current building. In the last ten years the school has been kept up to date in terms of both construction and technology.
Partnership with industry, business and universities
The Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium maintains connections to business and industry, for example as the official partner school of Siemens AG , which offers presentation seminars, team training and company tours for the students. In the Girls and Technology for Schoolgirls project, we work together with the industrial partners Trumpf , Götenbodt and Zander.
For high school students is the Student Engineering Academy (SIA), a cooperative institution with colleges , companies and Südwestmetall held in which the students at lectures and exercises at the University of Stuttgart and in companies, for example, the Robert Bosch GmbH and Behr participate, .
"College in Kepler"
Since 1996, well-known scientists have been giving lectures on current scientific developments under the event name Kolleg im Kepler . Among them were the Nobel Prize winners Bert Sakmann and Klaus von Klitzing .
Bilingual elements
The science internship in chemistry and parts of biology in grade 7 are taught in English . Some topics of the subject history in different grade levels are in English and French taught.
Eight year high school (G8)
The city of Leonberg introduced the shortened eight-year course (G8) at its grammar schools in the 2001/2002 school year (this only happened nationwide in 2004/2005). This makes the Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium one of the first schools in Baden-Württemberg in which pupils acquire the general university entrance qualification (Abitur) after just twelve years .
Upper school reform
According to the reform of the upper level in Baden-Württemberg, the first students passed their Abitur in 2004 according to new guidelines. As a result of the nationwide changes in curricula and personnel plans, various working groups (AG) were lost. Some students tried - but in vain - to stop the reform. In this way, the grammar school developed into a starting point for many counter-actions (e.g. petitions ), some of which received attention from the Ministry of Culture .
