John the Baptist Church (Lintorf)

The St. John the Baptist Church in the Bad Essen district of Lintorf is the parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Parish of Johannes the Baptist Lintorf, which belongs to the Bramsche parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover .

Building history and description

The nave of the two-bay Gothic hall church with ribbed vaults was built in 1499, according to a no longer existing inscription. The choir connects to a rectangular front yoke with a five-eighth end . The head of John the Baptist is depicted on the keystone of the fan vault in the choir . The windows are ogival with tracery . North is with the choir vault equipped sacristy .

The square Romanesque west tower dates from the 12th century. The upper tower floors were renewed in 1756 after being damaged by a fire in the previous year.

Interior

The oldest work of art in the church is an early Gothic forked cross , which dates from the 14th century and is said to have been in the old chapel in the neighboring village of Wimmer . The altar and pulpit were made of wood in 1783, and the baptismal font also dates from the 18th century. The western gallery was built in 1589, the others in the 17th and 18th centuries.
