Johannes Bahlmann
Bernhard Johannes Bahlmann OFM , also Bernardo Johannes Bahlmann , (born December 10, 1960 in Visbek ) is a German-Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Óbidos in Brazil .
Life
Bahlmann attended secondary school in Visbek and the commercial college in Wildeshausen and then completed a two-year agricultural training in Friesoythe and Visbek. Then he studied agricultural engineering . In 1981 and 1982 he completed an agricultural internship in the Future Farmers of America exchange program at Sky Vu Farms in Hastings, Minnesota .
In 1983 he met the Paderborn Franciscan Father Hans Stapel, founder of the Brazilian drug initiative Fazenda da Esperança, in Brazil . He joined the Franciscan order and studied theology and philosophy in Brazil. In 1984 he began his postulate and in 1986 the novitiate. In 1991 he made his profession and was ordained a deacon in 1995 in Petrópolis by the then auxiliary bishop in Vitória , João Bráz de Aviz . He taught English, history and Franciscan spirituality at the order's own college in Santo António. After being ordained a priest on July 12, 1997 in Visbek by the Bishop of Münster, Reinhard Lettmann , in 2001 he took over the leadership of the Franciscan Province of the Immaculate Conception in São Paulo as well as the coordination of the Franciscan Social Services SEFRAS in São Paulo. In 2001 he also received Brazilian citizenship.
On January 28, 2009 he was by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed prelate of Óbidos in northeastern Brazil. He received his episcopal ordination on May 9th, 2009 in the presence of the Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro, Orani Tempesta OCist , in the St. Paulus Cathedral in Münster by Bishop Felix Genn ; Co -consecrators were Bishop Martin Lammers OFM, in Óbidos predecessor of Johannes Bahlmann, as well as auxiliary bishop Heinrich Timmerevers , until 2001 pastor of Visbek, Bahlmann's place of birth. His bishop's coat of arms shows the “Tau” from the Greek alphabet, which refers to Francis of Assisi , a fish that reminds of Visbek, and a Brazil nut tree that can often be found in Óbidos. The motto is “A todos vida plena” ( Life in abundance for all ).
With the elevation of the territorial prelature to the diocese on November 9, 2011, he became its first diocesan bishop.
As part of an April Fool's joke , the Franciscans reported on April 1, 2011 that he had been appointed Archbishop of Berlin .
In September 2019, Bahlmann announced that he could imagine married priests as well as celibate priests in the Roman Catholic Church.
Bahlmann was a participant in the Amazon Synod in October 2019 in the Vatican.
