Martin Lammers

Martin Lammers OFM , also Martinho Lammers (born December 22, 1939 in Nienborg ) is a German Roman Catholic religious , bishop and emeritus prelate of the territorial prelature Óbidos in Brazil .

Life

After attending the elementary school in Nienborg, he moved in 1956 with his friend and schoolmate Josef Haring , later Bishop of Limoeiro do Norte , to the St. Anthony the Franciscan Missionary School in Bardel . After the one-year novitiate , both received the missionary cross on July 4, 1962 and set off for the so-called Third World . At that time, a crossing took four to five weeks. After the study they received on 22 July 1967 in Salvador by Bishop Valfredo Bernardo Tepe the priesthood . Afterwards the Franciscan Martin Lammers was first pastor in Alenquer .

On July 19, 1976, Pope Paul VI appointed him . as prelate of the Territorial Prelature Óbidos. After he was raised to the rank of bishop by Pope John Paul II on August 8, 1979 , the Archbishop of Belém do Pará , Alberto Gaudêncio Ramos , donated him to St. Anne's Cathedral in Óbidos on October 4 of the same year the episcopal ordination . Co-consecrators were the prelate of Santarém , James Michael Ryan , and the prelate of Parintins , Arcângelo Cerqua PIME . His motto is: "Servant of your joy" . He worked there as bishop for over 30 years until Pope Benedict XVI. on January 28, 2009 accepted his early resignation. Martin Lammers continues to work as a pastor in Óbidos despite his retirement .

On May 9th, 2009 he participated as co-consecrator in the consecration of his successor Johannes Bahlmann , who also came from the diocese of Münster , in the cathedral of Münster .
