Josef Haring

Josef Haring OFM (born December 20, 1940 in Gronau (Westphalia) ) is a German religious and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Limoeiro do Norte in Brazil.

Life

Franz and Elisabeth Haring's son grew up in Nienborg . Josef Haring joined the order of the Franciscans in Bardel Monastery in 1961 . He and his school friend Martin Lammers received the Mission Cross on July 4, 1962 after the one-year novitiate . Both made their way to what was then known as the Third World ; the crossing took four to five weeks. Haring put to the philosophical and theological studies in Brazil in 1965, the religious vows , and received on 22 July 1967 in Salvador da Bahia , along with Martin Lammers by Bishop Valfredo Bernardo Tepe the priesthood .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Limoeiro do Norte on January 19, 2000 . He was ordained episcopate on March 20th of the same year by the Archbishop of Aracajú , José Palmeira Lessa ; Co- consecrators were Martin Lammers OFM, meanwhile prelate of Óbidos , and João Maria Messi OSM , bishop of Barra do Piraí-Volta Redonda . As a motto for his ministry he chose: “United in the same faith”.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on May 10, 2017.
