Johann Conrad Schauer
Johann Conrad Schauer (also Johannes Konrad Schauer , born February 16, 1813 in Frankfurt am Main , † October 24, 1848 in Eldena ) was a German botanist . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Schauer ".
Life
After attending a grammar school in Mainz and a three-year training as a gardener in the royal court garden in Würzburg , thanks to the mediation of his teacher Anton Heller, he got an assistant position at the botanical garden in Bonn in 1831 . The second director Theodor Friedrich Ludwig Nees von Esenbeck promoted him and got him a job with his brother Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck at the botanical garden in Breslau , where he became head gardener in 1832. Schauer studied at the University of Breslau and was awarded a doctorate in Erlangen in 1835. phil. PhD. In 1841 he became a private lecturer in Breslau and in 1844 associate professor of botany at the University of Greifswald and teacher of natural history at the agricultural academy in Eldena .
Schauer is the first to describe numerous botanical taxa. He first described the plant , which is located in Western Australia, Symphyomyrtus lehmannii Schauer , which is now assigned to Eucalyptus lehmannii ( Schauer ) Bentham . The director of the botanical garden in Hamburg, Johann Georg Christian Lehmann , examined numerous plants that Johann August Ludwig Preiss had collected in Western Australia and divided them into families.
He translated Alfred Moquin-Tandon's plant teratology and worked with Mathias Joseph Bluff , Carl Anton Fingerhuth and Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck on the second, increased edition of the first section of the "Compendium Florae Germaniae".
On November 30, 1840, he was elected member ( matriculation no. 1485 ) of the Leopoldina with the academic surname Miller .
Honors
The plant genus Schaueria Nees from the acanthus family (Acanthaceae) honors Johann Conrad Schauer and Sebastian Schauer .
