Johannes Even

John Peter Hubert Even (* 10. December 1903 in Essen , † 24. November 1964 in Cologne ) was a German politician of the CDU .

Life and work

The son of a worker at the company Krupp made after the elementary school , a baker's apprentice and worked in this profession. From 1921 to 1924 he worked as a worker in the Essen Krupp works, until in 1924 he worked for the Catholic Workers' Secretariat in Essen for two years. From 1927 to 1939 Even was diocesan secretary of the Catholic labor movement (KAB) in the diocese of Mainz . Until it was dissolved in 1933, he was also the cartel secretary of the Christian trade unions in Mainz . In 1939 the National Socialists removed him from all offices, so that he took over the management of the bakery-purchasing cooperative in Bergheim .

After the Second World War Even participated in the re-establishment of the Catholic labor movement and in the formation of the DGB in the Bergheim district (Erft) . However, he left this again in 1955 and took part in the founding of the Christian trade union movement in Germany . In 1948 he became union secretary of the Catholic labor movement in West Germany, in 1959 its chairman. He also served as Vice President of the “International Federation of Christian Trade Unions” and of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK).

Political party

In the Weimar Republic Even belonged to the Windthorstbund , the youth organization of the Center Party , and later to the center itself, where he became a member of the Hessian state executive.

After the Second World War, Even helped found the CDU in the Bergheim district (Erft) . Since 1960 he has been a member of the state and federal executive boards.

MP

Before 1933 Even sat on the Mainz city council. From 1946 to 1950 he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

From 1949 until his death in 1964 he was a member of the Bundestag . He was always directly elected to parliament in the constituency of Bergheim-Euskirchen . Since 1953 he was a member of the board of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group . From 1953 he was also a delegate in the Council of Europe and in the Assembly of the Western European Union ( WEU ).

Public offices

Even was district administrator in the Bergheim district (Erft) from 1946 to 1948 .

Honors

Two streets are named after Even, Johannes-Even-Straße in Erftstadt and Nuremberg-Langwasser , as well as Johannes-Even-Heim in Bad Wünnenberg .
