Johannes Gehring

Johannes Heinrich August Richard Gehring (born February 27, 1874 in Stadtilm ; † April 15, 1961 in Radebeul ) was a German Protestant theologian, publisher of a specialist journal for Protestant child care, chairman and member of Protestant organizations and a specialist author.

Life

Gehring graduated from the Princely School in Grimma . From 1893 he studied theology in Leipzig and Erlangen . In the latter city, he received his doctorate in 1896 for Dr. phil. and passed his first theological exam. He then worked as an assistant chaplain in Rudolstadt and Lautenberg . In 1898 he received his doctorate in theology, followed by the second theological exam in Dresden . After serving as vicar, ordination and assistant chaplain, he took over the position of chaplain of the Evangelical Deaconess Institute in Dresden as well as the management of the kindergarten seminar for women in Kötzschenbroda , which was run by the Dresden Deaconess Mother House. From 1902 to 1931 he was editor-in-chief for the journal Die christliche Kinderpflege (today Theory and Practice of Social Pedagogy (TPS) ). Furthermore, Gehring was from 1920 to 1928 a member of the board of the conference for Christian child care (1926 chairman for a short time) and chairman of the working group for Protestant child care. In 1937 he moved to Herrnhut and in 1954 to Radebeul, where he spent his retirement in Lößnitzheim.
