Johannes Minckwitz

Johannes Minckwitz (born January 21, 1812 in Lückersdorf , Oberlausitz , † December 29, 1885 in Neuenheim near Heidelberg ) was a German poet , translator and philologist .

Live and act

After completing his studies, Minckwitz got a job as a teacher at the Blochmann Institute in Dresden for two years in 1840 . In 1855 he was at the University of Leipzig habilitation and then held as a private lectures Greek and German poetry. At Christmas 1861 he was appointed associate professor.

Minckwitz was the literary administrator of the writer August von Platen and published his poetic and literary estate in two volumes in 1852. From 1838 at the latest, when he had published Platen's biography in his literary letters, Minckwitz was also seen as his legitimate literary successor.

His son Johannes Minckwitz was also a writer. He preferred, a master of the game of chess , but later the task of editing chess literature .

Johannes Minckwitz found his final resting place in the Heidelberg Bergfriedhof in the (Dept. D).
