Johannes Otto Munck (born January 1, 1849 in Arnswalde ; † March 13, 1905 in the Free and Hanseatic City of Lübeck ) was Lübeck's police captain.

Life

Born in Arnswalde, he joined the 8th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment No. 61 in Thorn as an avantageur on October 4, 1866 . He participated in the war of 1870/71 with distinction. In addition to various service awards , he received the Iron Cross 2nd class.

After the war Munck switched to the police force and became a police commissioner in Dirschau . In the same capacity he later moved to Sagan ( Liegnitz administrative district ). On November 11, 1885, he was appointed as the successor to Chr. FA Herrichts as a police inspector in the Free and Hanseatic City of Lübeck and began his service on December 20.

Under the direction of Police Senator Hermann Rittscher , he was soon given the opportunity to develop his organizational talent.

Under Munck aegis of the blank of Lübeckische developed police and - night watchman - into a single policeman Corps continued. From small-town police rounds were large Urban military policeman pickets and patrols with parent day and night duty . Without hesitation, one could now seek the help of a policeman posted at the main road crossings and receive a polite and appropriate answer. This reorganization coincided in 1889 with the creation of the previously non-existent street cleaner column , which he brought into being because, despite the residents' obligation to clean the street in front of their house themselves, the result left much to be desired.

The reorganization extended to the criminal police and the executive branch received a corps of mounted policemen. Under the police direction of Senators Dr. Nice and Kulenkamp developed the Lübeckische policing and related institutions to patterns institutions that in many places imitators found.

In recognition of his many years of meritorious work and his responsible position , the Senate appointed Police Inspector Munck as police captain on June 26, 1900. In the presence of the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin on October 25, 1902 during his visit to Lübeck, Munck was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Griffins .

Years ago, a kidney disease had thrown him on the sickbed. In the summer it did this again. Although this was successfully removed surgically, a heartbeat shortly afterwards ended his life.
