Canon of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem
One of the oldest surviving seals of the Order of the Crosses, pointed oval, shows Mary with the baby Jesus and the double red cross. Inscription: Sigilum fratris Johannis Unbelief. Around 1485.

Johannes VII Unbelief (Latin Johannem Vnglaube de Hirschbergk ; * around 1445 in Hirschberg , Principality of Schweidnitz-Jauer ; † around 1520 in Neisse , Principality of Neisse ) was from 1485 to 1500 as Johannes VII. Provost of the Kreuzherren with the double red cross in Neisse, the royal seat of the Wroclaw bishops. From 1488 he wrote the copial book ( codex membranaceus ) of the Neisser Kreuzstiftes. The writer of the work was his Stifts kapitular Johann Frühauf ( Johannes Fruoff scriba confrater vester ). This copial book was one of the most important works of this genre in Silesia . It contained almost all documents pertaining to the Neisse cross and ended in 1717. This book seems to have disappeared by the end of the Second World War at the latest. One of the few surviving testimonies is a document from 1496. In it, a Baltharzar Clement sells his interest of 2 Marks on repurchase to Mr. Andree Karblisch, mansionary (church servant) of the St. Johannis church in Neisse. Sealed by Provost Johannes Unbelief, made out by Brother Petrus Kellner.

The ancestors of Johannes VII Unbelief belonged to the Hessian lower nobility. The Unbelief , originally settled in the southern Rhine-Main area in Hesse and appeared there since 1178 as knights and ministerials in the service of various imperial ministries and the Archdiocese of Mainz. From the first third of the 14th century they are also documented in Silesia . In a document dated July 6, 1338, Peter ( Pecz ) Ungeloube is named as the mayor of Freystadt ( Fryginstat ). In the succession of further mayors and councilors ( consuls ) of Freystadt, Sagan and Glogau , Johannes VII Unbelief continued this series in an outstanding position as provost of the Neiss cross lords with the double red cross . It was thanks to him that all of the monasteries and institutions of the Knights of the Cross remained independent. Pope Innocent VIII (1484–1492) issued a bull at the instigation of the Order of Malta , with which the Order of the Cross was to be dissolved and transferred to the Order of Malta. On August 20, 1500, the procurator of the grand prior of the Maltese, Johann von Schwanberg , demanded this from the provost Johannes VII Unbelief, citing the aforementioned papal bull. However, this had previously appealed to the Holy See and to Pope Alexander VI. , Successor to Innocent VIII., Obtained an opposing bull dated January 13, 1499. With that he achieved the establishment of a commission of inquiry. This consisted of the Breslau official Nikolaus diving, the bishop Johann IV. Roth and the abbot of the Breslau sand pen, Benedikt Johnsdorf. The negotiations ended with the Maltese renouncing to take over the Order of the Cross in Silesia and in return being awarded the Prague Cross-Lords Propstei on the Zderaz for "life".
