description

The first, medieval church was built between 1143 and 1152. It was reduced to rubble during the Thirty Years War . In the same year, the reconstruction began as today's hall church , which continued until 1658. The two new bells came in 1646, initially in a temporary bell cage . They were hung in the still half-finished choir tower in 1654 . The lower part of the tower comes from the medieval church. The nave, which is covered with a gable roof , is aligned with the tower. On its lower storeys there is a slate-roofed storey on which a hood sits, which is crowned with an open lantern that ends with a tower ball .

The interior of the church is simple. A wooden barrel vault spans the choir and the nave . During a renovation in 1849, the paintings on the balustrades of the galleries were whitewashed because they did not meet the taste of the time. The altarpiece , which was once on the wood paneling behind the wall between the pulpit from 1672 and the sound cover , is adorned with a portrait painting of Jesus Christ from the Renaissance period . The wooden baptismal font has also been preserved from the Renaissance . One reminiscent of the south wall portrait in a memorial plaque to the pious seriousness . Sättelstädt was part of the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha at the time .

The church received its first organ as early as 1659. The new organ from 1853 has 20 stops , divided into 2 manuals and pedal . It was built by Friedrich Christian Knauf .
