John Basil Rowland Grindrod

John Basil Rowland Grindrod (born December 14, 1919 in Aughton , Lancashire , England , † January 4, 2009 in Helensvale , Australia ) was a bishop of the Anglican Church of Australia .

Life

Grindrod attended the Repton School in Repton and first studied medicine to become a missionary doctor. After serving in the Royal Marines during World War II, he studied Anglican theology at Queen's College , Oxford and Lincoln Theological College , Lincoln . He was ordained a deacon in 1949 and a priest in 1952 while serving in the community in Hulme, Manchester . In 1954 he moved to Australia and took a job in Bundaberg . From 1956 to 1960 he was back in England and worked as a vicar in Manchester Ancoats. He then became archdeacon in Rockhampton . He was Bishop of Riverina from 1966 to 1971 and Bishop of Rockhampton from 1966 to 1971 . From 1979 to 1989 Grindrod was the successor to Felix Arnott Archbishop of the Diocese of Brisbane . From 1982 to 1989 Grindrod was next to it as the successor to Marcus Loane Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia .
