John Bennett (politician)

John O. Bennett III (born August 6, 1948 ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ).

As President of the Senate of New Jersey , he served in January 2002 for three and a half days as governor after Gov. Christine Todd Whitman resigned and the term of office of the previous Senate President Donald DiFrancesco had expired.

He was later accused of having issued controversial pardons during these three days and of having set up a committee on nursing services ( Nursing Advisory Council ) at the instigation of his wife .

As a result, he was not re-elected in the 2003 elections.
