John Bura also Iwan Bura , ( Ukrainian : Іван Бура; born June 12, 1944 in Wegeleben , German Empire ) is a bishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church . He is auxiliary bishop emeritus in Philadelphia and was Apostolic Administrator of the Eparchy of Saint Josaphat in Parma , United States , from 2009 to 2014 .

Life

John Bura is the son of a Ukrainian Greek Catholic family who emigrated from Germany to the United States and who lived in Jersey . With the end of primary school Bura 1959 entered the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Seminary St. Basil in Stamford ( Connecticut a). From 1965 to 1970 he studied theology at the Catholic University of America and at the seminary of St. Josaphat in Washington, DC He graduated with a Bachelor of Theology and was on 14 February 1971 by Archbishop Ambrozij Andrew Senyshyn OSBM in Philadelphia for priests consecrated.

Priesthood

After his ordination , he worked in Philadelphia . Between 1971 and 1972 he taught religion at St. Basil's Seminary in Stamford, and from 1972 to 1975 he worked as a language teacher for Ukrainian. Between 1975 and 1987 he was employed as a parish administrator in various places . From 1987 to 1997 he was the rector of St. Josaphat Seminary in Washington DC and in 1997 was pastor of two parishes.

Auxiliary bishop

June 12, 1991 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the Pontifical honor Kaplan . Pope Benedict XVI on January 3, 2006, confirmed the election of Auxiliary Bishop in Philadelphia by the Synod of the Ukrainian Church. On January 3, 2006, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Philadelphia with simultaneous appointment as titular bishop of Limisa . On 21 February 2006 he donated Major Archbishop Ljubomyr Cardinal Husar the episcopal ordination . Co -consecrators were Archbishop Stephen Soroka of Philadelphia and the Apostolic Exarch of Great Britain , Bishop Michael Kuchmiak CSsR . After the age-appropriate resignation of Bishop Robert Mikhail Moskal on July 29, 2009, he was also Apostolic Administrator of Saint Josaphat in Parma until Bohdan Danylo was appointed as his successor on August 7, 2014 .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on November 15, 2019.
