John Michael Sherlock

John Michael Sherlock (born January 20, 1926 in Regina ; † August 12, 2019 ) was a Canadian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop from London, Ontario .

Life

John Michael Sherlock was the second oldest of eight children and grew up in Brantford , Ontario. Four of his five brothers also entered the seminary, of which two of his brothers were also ordained. After studying philosophy and theology at St. Augustine's Seminary in Toronto, John Michael was ordained a priest for the diocese of Hamilton on June 3, 1950 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on June 25, 1974 auxiliary bishop in London and titular bishop of Macriana in Mauretania . The Bishop of Hamilton, Paul Francis Reding , ordained him episcopal on August 28 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Philip Francis Pocock , Archbishop of Toronto , and Joseph Francis Ryan , Bishop Emeritus of Hamilton.

On July 7, 1978 he was by Paul VI. was appointed Bishop of London and was instituted on August 21 of the same year. John Michael Sherlock was from 1983 to 1985 chairman of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB).

On April 27, 2002, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
