John Oliver Barres ( 'bærɪs ; born September 20, 1960 in Port Chester ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Rockville Center .

Life

He was ordained a priest on October 21, 1989 by the Bishop of Wilmington , Robert Edward Mulvee .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Allentown on May 27, 2009 . The Archbishop of Philadelphia , Justin Francis Cardinal Rigali , donated him episcopal ordination on July 30 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were Michael Angelo saltarelli , retired bishop of Wilmington, and William Francis Malooly , Bishop of Wilmington. He chose Holiness and Mission as his motto .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Rockville Center on December 9, 2016 . The inauguration took place on January 31 of the following year.
