John Patton Junior

John Patton Jr. (born October 30, 1850 in Curwensville , Clearfield County , Pennsylvania , †  May 24, 1907 in Grand Rapids , Michigan ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of Michigan in the US Senate .

Patton was preparing for college at Phillips Academy in Andover and graduated from Yale in 1875 , where he was a member of the Skull and Bones fraternity . In 1877 he graduated from Columbia College Law School in New York City . The following year he moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he became a member of the bar and began practicing as a lawyer.

After the death of US Senator Francis B. Stockbridge on April 30, 1894, Patton was appointed as his successor by Michigan's Governor John Tyler Rich . He took up his mandate in Congress on May 5 of that year and remained there until January 14, 1895. He lost his election as a regular successor to Julius C. Burrows .

That was the end of Patton's political career. He then went into banking and later became President of the Board of Library Commissioners of Grand Rapids. He died there in 1907.

His father John was a member of the US House of Representatives from 1861 to 1863 and from 1887 to 1889 as a member of the US House of Representatives for Pennsylvania , his younger brother Charles from 1911 to 1915.
