Patrick V. McNamara

Patrick Vincent McNamara (born October 4, 1894 in Weymouth , Norfolk County , Massachusetts , †  April 30, 1966 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ) who represented the state of Michigan in the US Senate .

After studying at the Weymouth and Quincy public schools , Patrick McNamara moved to Detroit in 1921 , where he was also active in the union and civic fields in addition to his construction work. From 1942 to 1945 he headed the local branch of the Office of Price Administration previously established by the federal government . Between 1946 and 1954 he was Vice President of the Stanley-Carter Company . McNamara served on Detroit City Council from 1946 to 1947, and served on the city's Education Committee from 1949.

In 1954 he was finally elected to the United States Senate, where he assumed his mandate from January 3, 1955. In 1960 he was sustained for another six years, but before the end of his second term, Patrick McNamara died on April 30, 1966 at Bethesda Naval Hospital . During his time in the Senate, among other things, he was chairman of the Committee on Public Works .

The Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building , a high-rise office building in Detroit, was named after him.
