Jon Hall (actor)
Jon Hall (born February 23, 1915 in Fresno , California - † December 13, 1979 in Los Angeles , California; actually Charles Hall Locher ) was an American film actor .
Life
Charles Hall Locher was born as the son of a native Swiss Felix Locher (1882-1969) and spent his childhood in Tahiti . Father Felix also became an actor at the age of 73 after visiting his son on the film set and was discovered there by a director .
Jon Hall made his film debut in Woman Must Dress , initially under the name Charles Locher, but initially only played minor roles, around 1935 in Mutiny on the Bounty or Charlie Chan in Shanghai . The actor became famous in 1937 for John Ford's film drama ... then came the hurricane alongside Dorothy Lamour . ... then came the hurricane based on a novel by the writer duo Charles Bernard Nordhoff and James Norman Hall , where James Norman Hall was the uncle of Jon Hall. Hall's cousins also included cinematographer Conrad L. Hall and actor Ben Chapman .
Jon Hall's career peaked in the 1940s, starring in numerous adventure films at Universal Studios . His most successful films of this type include Arabian Nights (1942) and Ali Baba and the Forty Robbers (1944). In the 1944 horror film The Invisible Man Takes Vengeance , Hall also played the role of scientist Dr. Griffin, who is gradually becoming invisible and insane. Two years earlier he had played another Invisible Man in The Invisible Agent , directed by Edwin L. Marin . After his popularity in the cinema decreased from the late 1940s, Hall switched to television: In the series Ramar of the Jungle from 1952 to 1954, he played the lead role for 52 episodes. The Beach-Girls and the Monster , which he also directed, was his last film in 1965.
In 1934 he married Frances Langford , and the marriage was divorced the following year. In 1959, he married the actress Raquel Torres , the couple divorced and later remarried and then divorced again. 1979 committed Jon Hall with 64 years due to a painful cancer suffering suicide . He has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
