Josef "Joos" Celine Maria Valgaeren (born March 3, 1976 in Leuven ) is a former Belgian football player .

Player career

The beginnings

Joos Valgaeren started his career as a soccer player in 1982 in the youth team of FC Herselt , from which he moved to the youth department of KFC Verbroedering Geel in 1987 , where he also made his debut in men's soccer. In 1994 he switched to the Belgian first division club KV Mechelen . He stayed there for three years and gained his first experience in professional football. He then went abroad for the first time in 1997. At Roda Kerkrade he was able to become a regular player in the Dutch honor division and win the 2000 national cup. During his time at Roda he also became a Belgian international.

Celtic Glasgow

After the Euro 2000 , the Scottish top club Celtic Glasgow signed the talented defender. Valgaeren had its most successful time with the Scots. With Celtic he won seven national titles (3 × champions, 3 × cup winners, 1 × league cup) and played regularly.

Club Bruges

In the summer of 2005 Valgaeren decided to return to the domestic 1st division after having been active abroad for eight long years. With the top club Club Bruges he was able to celebrate his last title so far in the cup final over Standard Liège in 2007 .

National team

Between 1999 and 2004 Joos Valgaeren made 19 international appearances for Belgium without scoring a goal. For his home country he took part in the European Football Championship 2000 in his own country.

Before that, he played in various youth national teams for the Belgians.
