José Puyet

José Puyet Padilla (born April 22, 1922 in Málaga , † August 28, 2004 in Madrid ) was a Spanish modern painter who painted in the Impressionist style. Its popularity extends well beyond Spain and the United States .

Puyet was born in Málaga , Spain . He was the grandchild of the teacher José Padilla, a Spanish artist who started painting in the nineteenth century. Puyet learned to paint by watching his grandfather. At the age of eight he began to paint with brushes and oil paints . At twenty, Puyet entered the Spanish military to take part in World War II . He was sent to the Melilla exclave . During this time he deepened his studies of people and moods. His superiors, who recognized his talent, often relieved him of guard duty so that he could paint the families of the commanders.

Career

After his return to Malaga, Puyet tried to get by as a freelance artist. He moved to Madrid , where at first it was difficult for him to make a living. He often stayed with truck drivers or wherever they were allowed to. With the little money he had, he bought his painting supplies and painted people at work. Furthermore, he was occasionally commissioned to paint crypts and mausoleums . He also painted the packaging of perfumes and creams.

Ultimately, Puyet gained considerable prestige through his paintings. His first exhibition was shown in Carrera de San Jerónimo de Madrid . The exhibition was successful and led to 42 other exhibitions before Carrera de San Jerónimo de Madrid was finally closed. Puyet also exhibited in Barcelona , Valencia , Málaga , San Francisco , New York , Montreal , Miami , Monterrey , San Mateo , Houston , Boston , Hamburg , Berlin , Munich and Milan .

Puyet has been listed in the Who's Who of art since 1984 . In 1988 he became a member of the Real Academy of Fine Art of San Telmo in Málaga.

heritage

Today his paintings are bought by families from the house of Álvarez de Toledo and the Grimaldis . Plácido Domingo has a sizeable collection of Puyet's paintings.

Puyet died on August 28, 2004 at the age of 82 in Madrid from a cerebral haemorrhage .
