José Roberto Bertrami
José Roberto "Ze" Bertrami (born February 21, 1946 in Tatuí ; † July 7, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian musician ( piano , keyboard ), composer , arranger and band leader in the field of bossa nova , fusion and smooth jazz .

Bertrami, best known as the leader of the band Azymuth , had a classical piano training and was influenced by the jazz pianist Bill Evans . At the beginning of his career he played as a keyboard player in the formation Tamba 4 of Luiz Eça , who became an important mentor for him. In 1965 he published his first solo album and then worked with Flora Purim and Robertinho Silva , before meeting the drummer Ivan Conti , with whom he formed the formation Azymuth in 1972 ; bassist Alex Malheiros became the third member. For Milestone Records the band recorded a number of successful albums, such as Light As a Feather and Telecommunications ; she had her biggest hit with the song Jazz Carnival . In 1988 Bertrami separated from the group in order to work sporadically with her again from the beginning of the 1990s. In the following years he worked as a composer and arranger a. a. with Chico Buarque , Toninho Horta , Eddie Palmieri , Marcos Valle , Jorge Ben Jor , Sarah Vaughan , Elis Regina , Mark Murphy , Joe Pass , Erasmo Carlos , Milton Nascimento , Airto and Flora Purim. From 1994 Bertrami worked with his band José Roberto Bertrami And His Modern Sound , with whom he presented the albums Things Are Different and Aventura at Far Out Recordings .
His son Victor Bertrami is a fusion musician.
