Josef H. Neumann (born May 27, 1953 in Rheine ) is a German photographer , photo u. Media designer , photo artist, photo journalist and art historian .

Neumann is the inventor of the chemogram (1974).

Life

education

From 1967 to 1970 Josef H. Neumann completed an apprenticeship as a photographer with Gustav Wenning in his Westphalian birthplace, Rheine . From 1974 to 1986 he studied visual communication at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and, from 1979, supplemented this with a degree in journalism , philosophy and art history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster .

Act

From 1979 Neumann taught at intervals at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences in the fields of photo design and social work. The computer science department at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences has entrusted him with the teaching assignment "Design with electronic media" for 24 years.

From 1986 Neumann photographed for various publishers in Germany, Austria, France and Switzerland. Especially for the CJ Bucher Verlag (Munich) Neumann often worked with the Russian panorama camera Horizont . So a number of panorama picture books appeared, u. a. Paris, Vienna, Switzerland, Munich, Germany, Tuscany and Sicily.

His illustrated book "Germany" was awarded the Kodak Photo Book Prize twice - in 1987 and 1990 . In addition, it was provided with a foreword by Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker and distributed over 40,000 copies worldwide as a guest gift by the federal government over several years.

With professor ablen status at the Fachhochschule Dortmund in the Department of Design from 1986 to 1987 wrote Neumann together with Harald Mante in the years 1986 and 1988 two standard works on the subject make creative use of films and lenses used creatively in the publishing photograph (Schaffhausen).

In 1993 Neumann taught at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences in the field of photo engineering.

On the basis of intensive and creative investigations of the then new camera generation Zoom-Kompakte, his book Zoomkompakte Kreativ was published in 1994 on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Japanese camera company Asahi Optical Joint Stock Co. aka Pentax by the Photographie publishing house (Schaffhausen).

In his place of residence in Dortmund, Neumann, in collaboration with his colleague Gerhard P. Müller , took photos for two extensive illustrated books on Dortmund's church treasures, which were published by Verlag Fr.- W. Ruhfus in 1987 and 1999.

Since August 2003, Neumann's picture archive has been managed by Germany's first fully digital picture agency bildkontor.com , based in Hamburg.

Using Neumann's photographic work, the postcard portal was activated in June 2004 for sending real postcards via the Internet in cooperation with the company postalo.de in Hamburg.

Since 2003 Neumann has been freelance artistic in Portugal ( Algarve ) in the field of photo and video.

In January 2012 he opened the studio INICIO.de in Dortmund's Unionviertel together with the Argentine artist Virginia Novarin .

Neumann works today a. a. as a freelance photo designer with productions in the field of image and product advertising with print and moving image media. In addition, Neumann regularly works as a lecturer in the field of photo didactics not only for state institutions but also for private companies.

Josef H. Neumann has been a member of the German Society for Photography (DGPh) since 1986.

Neumann's photographic work has been presented in all major German photo magazines such as COLOR FOTO , Foto, Foto Hits , Fotoheft , Fotomagazin , MINOLTA Mirror , NIKON News , PHOTO , Photographie (Magazin) , Photo Revue , Professional Camera , ProfiFoto , fineartfotomagazin and is at the same time Author of numerous photo contributions in German and European publications such as Creative Photography , Relais & Châteaux , Brigitte , Natur (magazine) , Freizeit Revue , S.Fischer Verlag , Suhrkamp Verlag and Time (magazine) .

Editorial activities

From 1981 to 1996 Neumann was a member of the photography editorial team in the cities of Düsseldorf and Zurich .

As editor-in-chief, Neumann was also editor-in-chief of Fotoheft magazine from 1990 to 1992 .

In 1974 the conversion of were in an experimental development Chemigrammen to chemo grams , carried out in which Neumann briefly einbelichtete during the work process first optical images on photo paper, and then the black and white photographic paper, as a basis in the identical process, in addition to chemicals further editing.

In the continuation of this artistic creation, Neumann experimented, beginning in 1976, with the first successful test attempts to create “edible photo prints” using screen printing in four-color separations and embossing the term.

The company Fotomedia and involved research work with a focus on electronic image processing for multimedia projects took place towards the end of 1992 in Dortmund.

From this very intensive research work 1992–1996, together with the multimedia specialist Fridtjof Walther, the DIPO DIGITAL POSTCARD® was created. Development, trademark registration at the DPMA in 1993 and marketing for the world's first digital postcard that can be edited on a 3.5-inch diskette

The research work started in 1976 on the creation of "edible photo prints" took place through the use of piezo printing technology and food coloring . 1998 its preliminary graduation.

As part of his teaching activity at the Department of General Information Technology at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences, Josef H.
