After graduating from high school in 1871, the son of a cloth merchant first attended the Technical University in Kraków , but then took up the acting profession against his father's will. He made his debut in 1873 at the Rudolfheimer stage in Vienna in a small role as a soldier in Schiller's The Fiesco Conspiracy in Genoa . His apprenticeship years in the province led him a. a. to the Hungarian Nagykanizsa , to the city theater in Chemnitz and to Breslau . After an engagement at the Grazer Landestheater he was hired for the Ringtheater in Vienna in 1878 . In 1880 he played at the Carl-Theater , in 1882 he moved to the Theater an der Wien .

Success in performing singing roles prompted him to decide to become a singer.

As an operetta tenor, Josephi soon became very popular with the public. He sang in Carl Millöker's The Begging Student and Gasparone , in Johann Strauss' A Night in Venice and The Gypsy Baron , and in Vilém Blodek's comic opera in one act “V studni” (In the fountain). Together with Alexander Girardi , Karl Lindau and Therese Biedermann , he formed the elite corps of the Viennese operetta .

In 1900 he moved to Berlin . From 1906 he was engaged for two years at the Friedrich-Wilhelmstädtisches Theater and then for five years at the Metropol-Theater , where he appeared in the great annual reviews by Victor Hollaender and Julius Freund alongside stars such as Fritzi Massary , Joseph Giampietro and the drastic comedian Guido Thielscher . He was the first interpreter for many operettas and revue hits by the Hollaender-Freund team.

For a few years, due to its popularity, he was able to devote himself exclusively to vaudeville and performing arts. In the winter garden and in the Eden Theater , he delighted Berliners with songs and chansons by Julius Einödshofer , Erik Meyer-Helmund , Rudolf Nelson and Gustav Wanda.

On New Year's Eve 1919 Josephi stood on stage for the last time. He died on January 8, 1920 at the age of 67 in Berlin. He rests in an honorary grave in the Hietzinger Friedhof (group 40, number 24 H) in Vienna.
