Josef Kepplinger (sculptor)

Josef Kepplinger (born July 1, 1849 in Sankt Peter am Wimberg , † March 19, 1898 in Ottensheim ) was an Austrian sculptor of historicism and altar builder .

Life

Kepplinger, the son of a bricklayer, initially worked as a guardian and in agriculture, then he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. In 1875/76 he moved to Ottensheim, where he founded an altar building workshop that employed up to 50 journeymen. After his death, the workshop was continued by his widow, Anna Kepplinger, and his former student Simon Raweder (1862–1941). In 1899 it burned down and in 1903 it was dissolved.
