Josef van Eimern

Josef van Eimern (born March 16, 1921 in Till near Kleve ; † January 10, 2008 in Freising ) was a German forest and agricultural meteorologist .

Life

Josef van Eimern studied meteorology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . During the Second World War he was used as a meteorological observer on remote sensing flights by the Air Force. After the end of the war he also studied mathematics , physics , geography and philosophy in Bonn ; In 1948, the University of Bonn with the work was on the mathematics and science faculty fluctuations of the natural water balance at the left Niederrhein with special emphasis on groundwater fluctuations to Dr. rer. nat. PhD . At the same time, the state examination for teaching at higher schools followed. He found his first professional engagement with the national meteorological service of the Federal Republic of Germany, from which the German Weather Service (DWD) emerged in 1952 .

In 1956 Josef van Eimern set up the agrometeorological test and advice center in Weihenstephan. At the same time , he completed his habilitation in 1964 with the presentation of studies on the climate in plant stocks as the basis for agro-meteorological advice, in particular for plant protection at the Technical University of Munich , and taught at the TUM and the Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences as a private lecturer . After several stays abroad and visiting professor in 1980, he received a reputation as a professor for Bioclimatology at the Georg-August-University of Goettingen and director of settled in the Forest Sciences Institute of Bioclimatology. As an emeritus from 1986 he taught at the Technical University of Munich in Freising , the forerunner of today's Weihenstephan Science Center for Nutrition, Land Use and the Environment at the Technical University of Munich . He was particularly concerned with forest ecology and the so-called forest dieback .

Professor van Eimern was chairman from 1979 to 1981 and vice chairman from 1982 to 1984 of the German Meteorological Society DMG .

Since 1947 he was a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Ripuaria Bonn , later also the KDSt.V. Ascania Bonn , the FAV Rheno-Guestfalia Münden and the KDSt.V. Agilolfia zu Freising-Weihenstephan, whose ribbon of honor "optime merito" he received in 1998. All of these connections belong to the Cartell Association of Catholic German Student Associations (CV) .

Prof. Dr. rer. nat Josef van Eimern died on January 10, 2008 in Freising. He found his final resting place in the local St. Georg cemetery .
