Joseph Hauber

Joseph Hauber (born March 14, 1766 in Geratsried ; † December 23, 1834 in Munich ) was a German painter who was particularly valued as a painter of altarpieces in his day, while today he is mainly known for his portraits in the Biedermeier and classicist styles is known.

Life

After an apprenticeship as a painter in Rettenberg , he briefly studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna . From 1785 he lived and worked in Munich and married Katharina Millbaur in 1794. From this marriage 11 children were born. In 1797 he became a professor at the drawing academy and in 1808 at the newly founded Munich Academy of Fine Arts .
