Career

Johann Ignaz embarked on a military career. He was a KK chamberlain and was promoted to major general on September 1, 1807 . In 1809 in Innsbruck at the Battle of Bergisel , he commanded the Austrian armed forces together with the Tyroleans under Andreas Hofer in the fight against the Napoleonic French and Bavaria.

On January 29, 1813 he became a field marshal lieutenant. from August 1814 to January 1816 he was military commander in Linz and then from 1816 to August 2, 1817 military city commander in Prague.

On May 29, 1795, Emperor Franz II awarded him the title “von Mühlingen”, now “von Berenberg and Mühlingen”.
