Joseph Maria Herlet

Joseph Maria Herlet (born March 17, 1876 in Straelen , † February 24, 1951 in Bonn ) was a German winery owner and provisional district administrator in the district of Cochem .

Life

Herlet is not aware of any written records about his parents or schooling, and was in the service of the city of Cologne from January 12, 1914 to November 30, 1933. There he initially worked as a property director and from 1923 as an assistant to the property and agriculture department of the city of Cologne under Konrad Adenauer . As a result of Hitler's seizure of power , Herlet ended his service in Cologne and went back to Karden to manage his winery again. Here he met with Adenauer and other politicians after the end of the Second World War to discuss how to approach the upcoming talks with the Allied commissioners of the French zone of occupation .

After the previous District Administrator Adolf Gandner had passed in February 1948, Herlet took over his position on a provisional basis until April 26, 1950. In this role, he was particularly involved in restoring a functioning farming and winegrowing economy in the district, which was held on the occasion of the advertising week on February 24 1948 was celebrated. In 1949 the viticulture school and the viticulture office in Cochem- Cond , which had been destroyed by the war, were reopened. At the opening ceremony, Herlet was the first district deputy (from 1948 to 1951) to thank the first director of the viticulture school that had opened 20 years earlier - Heinrich Friederichs, the senior viticulture teacher - for his work. At the beginning of 1951, Herlet resigned from office for health reasons, but still introduced his successor as District Administrator Albert Gilles into his office. Only a few weeks later he died in Bonn and found his final resting place in Karden on the Moselle.
