Karl Julius Schönberger (* 27. May 1804 in Edenkoben , † 2. February 1884 in Wiesbaden ) was a German district in the county Cochem and Privy Councilor .

Life

Schönberger first attended the grammar school in Zweibrücken , to which he joined a voluntary year with the 30th Infantry Regiment “Graf Werder” after passing his Abitur examination . After finishing his service in the Prussian Army , he moved first to Heidelberg , then to Bonn and finally to Berlin to study camera sciences there. After graduating, he got his first job as a government trainee and assistant in Trier . He carried out this activity from 1828 to November 1, 1841, when he was appointed district administrator in the Cochem district due to a cabinet order from the highest authority. In the last years of his term of office, especially in the revolutionary years of 1848/1849 , Schönberger had his hands full in his function as district administrator, as can be attested by the diverse surviving records from this time. In January 1848, he announced that the public mood in the Cochem district was good, but that the reorganization of the political situation would cause great sensations. From March 25th to 26th, 1848, there were riots in Treis , the aim of which was to remove the local police. At this point in time Schönberger had already questioned the effectiveness of the police to a large extent. Although the Cochem vigilante group was founded on April 24, 1848, as had already been the case in other municipalities, the district administrator complained here too inactivity that one would not dare to oppose the lumberjackers . As the reigning Cochem Mayor Hugo Keiffenheim even the board of the local vigilantes was chosen forbade him Schoenberger then the Bureau of the mayor to enter. When there were political difficulties around Schönberger in December 1848 and March 1849, he was simply dismissed and sent on vacation. 1849 he was transferred first to Konigsberg , then to Dusseldorf , then back to Poznan and ultimately to Magdeburg , where he was a Secret Councilor retired.
