Karl Georg Freiherr von Hammerstein-Gesmold (* 14. November 1873 in Bückeburg ; † 11. February 1932 in Magdeburg ) was a German district administrator in the district of Cochem and Regierungsrat in Breslau and Magdeburg.

Life

Karl Georg was a son of the royal Solms-Braunfelsschen court marshal and Prussian major Karl von Hammerstein-Gesmold (1829-1893) and his wife Alexandrine, née Countess von Razumovsky (* 1845). The future general of the infantry Hans von Hammerstein-Gesmold (1867-1933) was his older brother.

Career

After successfully attending a high school in Hanover, Hammerstein studied in Freiburg im Breisgau , Berlin , Munich and Göttingen from 1893 to 1896 . After receiving his doctorate in Göttingen on January 28, 1897 with his dissertation Das Fideikommiss auf der Remainder , he took his first positions first at the regional court in Burgdorf and then with the government in Hanover . He later continued to work in Neustadt , then in Göttingen, followed by Königsberg, before accepting a position with the government in Koblenz on March 1, 1904 . On June 1, 1906, he was appointed provisional district administrator in the district of Cochem, which was converted into a final appointment on December 7, 1908.

Between 1913 and 1918 he was also a member of the Rhenish Provincial Parliament. In July 1918 he was officially adopted from the district of Cochem with the call and appointment to the government council in the upper presidium in Breslau . His last appointment was on March 21, 1921, as a senior government councilor in Magdeburg, where he stayed until 1932, where he died at the age of 58 while performing his service.
