Kurt von Lettow-Vorbeck

Kurt Wilhelm von Lettow-Vorbeck (* 2. July 1879 in Freiburg , † 12. January 1960 in Kassel ) was a German district in the county Cochem and circle Prenzlau and Government in Berlin .

Life

Kurt's parents were the Prussian major general and infantry commander of the 5th Baden Infantry Regiment No. 113, Moritz Eduard von Lettow-Vorbeck and his wife Hedwig Henriette nee. Schröder. He had an older brother Ernst Moritz (1874–1950) and a younger sister Katharina Hedwig (1883–1888).

He received his high school education in Kassel. He studied law at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the Philipps University of Marburg . He became a member of the Corps Hasso-Borussia Freiburg (1900) and the Corps Hasso-Nassovia (1904). After completing his studies, he first worked in Posen , then in Frankfurt (Oder) and Wetzlar . From there he moved to Koblenz , where he was appointed government councilor . On July 25, 1917, he was appointed to the provisional district administrator in the Cochem district, which was converted into a permanent position on December 1, 1919 through an appointment . In July 1921, he moved back to the district of Prenzlau as district administrator and member of the German National People's Party , where he was replaced by Silvio Conti , who was a member of the NSDAP , on August 3, 1933 and put into temporary retirement in September. After the transfer to the Upper Presidium of Berlin, Lettow-Vorbeck was transferred to the state commissioner of the capital in May 1934 and last moved to the city administration of Berlin in 1938.

Kurt von Lettow-Vorbeck was married to Auguste Elisabeth Hedwig von Block (* 1881 in Berlin) on June 3, 1906. He had a daughter with her, Christa von Lettow-Vorbeck, born on September 23, 1908 in Frankfurt (Oder).
