Joseph Rank

Josef Rank (born July 10, 1816 in Friedrichsthal , † March 27, 1896 in Vienna ) was a narrator and journalist .

Life

The farmer's son Josef Rank studied philosophy and law in Vienna and became acquainted with Nikolaus Lenau . His sketches from the Bohemian Forest (1843; 3 vol., 1851) are the first examples of the “village history”. In popular scientific country descriptions, narratives are embedded, but political and social questions tend to be avoided.

From September 20, 1848 to the end of the rump parliament on June 18, 1849 he was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly for Bischofteinitz , where he belonged to the left-wing parliamentary group of the German court .

After longer stays in Germany, Josef Rank returned to Vienna in 1861 , where he became editor of the Oesterreichische Zeitung and, in 1863, secretary of the kk Hofoper .

In Vienna - Ottakring , Rankgasse has been named after him since 1913 .
