Joseph Wenzel (Fürstenberg-Stühlingen)
Joseph Wenzel zu Fürstenberg-Stühlingen (born March 21, 1728 in Prague ; † June 2, 1783 in Donaueschingen ) was (1762–1783) the sixth ruling Prince of Fürstenberg .
Life
Joseph Wenzel was born as the first son of Prince Joseph zu Fürstenberg and Countess Maria Anna von Waldstein-Wartenberg . He studied in Strasbourg and Leipzig .
Joseph Wenzel tried to develop the school system in his principality and introduced a princely high school office. The lessons were based on the Austrian school model (Austrian normal type of teaching). The management of the grammar school in Donaueschingen was entrusted to a Jesuit, later the overall supervision of the entire school system to the Benedictine Franz Uebelacker. Joseph Wenzel had a history of the Fürstenberg family prepared by the princely archivists .
A penitentiary was built in Hüfingen . His father's industrial policy stopped Joseph Wenzel and made resettlement difficult because of the morally negative consequences he ascribed to industry. He promoted handicrafts such as watchmaking. In 1777 he set up fire insurance.
After 1766 he became director of the Swabian Reichsgrafen-Kollegium . In 1775 he was appointed major general by the emperor (with rank from 1765).
Joseph Wenzel is said to be ostentatious and mistresses ; he is certainly one of the less important personalities of the Fürstenberg family.
The musician
Joseph Wenzel was a music lover and is said to have played the cello himself excellently . In 1762 he began building a court orchestra, for which he brought a number of musicians from abroad to his court in Donaueschingen. In 1783, Franz Christoph Neubauer was also employed as concert director. In October 1766 Leopold Mozart and his son Wolfgang Amadeus stayed for about 2 weeks in Donaueschingen as the Prince's guest.
Marriage and offspring
Joseph Wenzel married on June 9, 1748 Countess Maria Josepha von Waldenburg Scheer Trauchburg, the daughter of Count Hans Ernst von Waldburg-Scheer -Trauchburg and had seven children with her:
