Joseph von Weber (General)
Joseph Freiherr von Weber (born August 28, 1813 in Vienna ; † July 14, 1906 ibid.) Was an imperial Austrian field military officer .
Life
Military career
From August 25, 1825 he attended the Military Academy of Wiener Neustadt . Then joined the 1st Romanen Border Regiment No. 16 and was appointed lieutenant on October 3, 1833 . On August 1, 1841, he moved to the Kaiser Nr. 1 Infantry Regiment , after he had already been assigned to the military drawing office in May 1840. On September 29, 1843 he was transferred to the Quartermaster General , where he was promoted to captain on June 5, 1846 and major on February 21, 1849 . From November 1, 1848 to January 6, 1849 he was part of the Kempen division in the campaign against the Hungarians . On October 21, 1848 he fought in Vienna, on October 28, 29, 30 near Schwadorf and in the battle of Schwechat . On November 7th he was involved in the fighting at Bruck an der Leitha , on December 17th and 18th in the meetings of Kittsee and Pressburg . On March 31, 1849 he took part in the bombardment of Komorn , on April 19 he fought in the Battle of Nagy-Sarlo , on June 16 in the battles of Pered , Szeged and Szöreg (August 4th and 5th ), on August 9 at the Battle of Temesvár and on August 15 at Lugos. For his services at Szöreg and Temešvár he was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown III on April 15, 1850 . Class honored with the Russian Order of Saint Anne for his work with Pered. Until April 15, 1849 he was adjutant in the military command in Pressburg, after which he was chief of staff of the reserve corps and on July 15, 1850 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. In May 1854 he was promoted to colonel , on May 27, 1859 he was appointed chief of staff of the 4th Army and promoted to major general.
With the beginning of the war of 1866 he was first deputy to the commanding general Archduke Leopold , then from June 29 to July 11, commander of the VIII Corps. His troops fought in the Battle of Skalitz (June 28th) and on June 30th at Kasow. After his defeat in the Battle of Königgrätz , he was promoted to Lieutenant Field Marshal on July 16 . After the war he became military commander of Peterwardein and took command of the 23rd Infantry Troop Division. On January 28, 1871, he received the Commander's Cross of the Order of Leopold , in the same year the Emperor transferred ownership of Infantry Regiment No. 22 to him. On October 24, 1876 he was promoted to Feldzeugmeister and led the presidium of the Supreme Military Justice Senate. He was finally adopted on May 1, 1881.
