Career
college
When choosing college, Freeman was encouraged to play in the tight end position. Freeman's goal, however, was a place as a quarterback in the NFL. He originally opted for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln , but was then persuaded by the then head coach of Kansas State University to play for Kansas State College Football . In three years with the Kansas City Wildcats, he threw 680 passes for 8,078 yards and 44 touchdowns at 34 interceptions . He achieved an average quarterback rating of 124.73.
NFL
In 2009, Josh Freeman was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the 17th player in the first round of the NFL Draft . The Buccaneers gave the rookie a five-year contract. In his first season, he played ten games and threw passes for 1,855 yards. He got ten touchdown passes, but he also threw 18 interceptions and only achieved a quarterback rating of 59.8. His breakthrough came in his second season. Freeman was starting quarterback and threw 25 touchdowns with only six interceptions. Tampa Bay narrowly missed the play-offs with a 10-6 record .
In the 2013 season , Freeman and the Buccaneers started badly. After another bad performance in week three, the Buccaneers offered the quarterback to other teams. Since no team could be found, he was fired by the Buccaneers in early October.
Just three days after his release, Freeman was signed by the Minnesota Vikings . There he should fight for the starting place with Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel . Ponder showed poor performance before that and couldn't win a single game.
After his contract with the Vikings ended in March 2014, he moved to the New York Giants in April of the same year as a backup for Eli Manning , who had to undergo an operation before the season.
During the 2015 season, he was signed by the Indianapolis Colts after Andrew Luck was injured. When replacement quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was also out, Freeman came as a nominal third quarterback for a use. After the season, however, he was released again.
