Juan Antonio Ugarte Pérez (born September 16, 1938 in Lima ) is a Peruvian clergyman and retired Archbishop of Cuzco .

Life

Juan Antonio Ugarte Pérez joined Opus Dei and was ordained a priest on August 27, 1967 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Abancay and titular bishop of Castrum on August 18, 1983 . He was ordained bishop by the apostolic nuncio in Peru , Mario Tagliaferri , on October 2nd of the same year; Co- consecrators were Enrique Pélach y Feliú , Bishop of Abancay, and Luis Sánchez-Moreno Lira , Prelate of Yauyos .

On October 18, 1986, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Cuzco. On December 4, 1991, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Yauyos. He was named prelate of Yauyos on March 15, 1997, and was introduced to the office on April 27 of the same year. On November 29, 2003 he was appointed Archbishop of Cuzco.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on October 28, 2014.
