The Roman Catholic Diocese of Abancay ( lat. : Dioecesis Abancaiensis ) is in the central Peruvian Andes situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Abancay .

history

The diocese of Abancay was established on April 28, 1958 from cessions of territory from the Archdiocese of Cuzco and subordinated to this as a suffragan . On April 26, 1968, the diocese gave part of its territory to the establishment of the territorial prelature Chuquibambilla .

Sprengel

The diocese of Abancay comprises the four provinces of Abancay , Andahuaylas , Aymaraes and Chincheros of the Departamento de Apurímac .

In the first four years of its existence, Carlos María Jurgens Byrne CSsR , Archbishop of Cusco , was the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Abancay.
