Juanita Coulson
Juanita Ruth Coulson (born Juanita Ruth Wellons on February 12, 1933 in Anderson , Indiana ) is an American science fiction , fantasy , and horror author, fanzine editor, and filk musician.
Life
Coulson is the daughter of Grant Elmer Wellons and Ruth Margaret Wellons, née Oemler. She studied at Ball State University , where she graduated with a Masters in 1961. During her studies she worked as a primary school teacher from 1954 to 1955, in a bookbindery until 1957 and subsequently ran a copy shop for 10 years. Since 1954 she has been married to the writer Robert Stratton Coulson , with whom she has a son (born 1957) and from 1953 to 1986 published the fanzine Yandro , which won the Hugo Award for Best Fanzine in 1965.
Her first SF story Another Rib , written together with Marion Zimmer Bradley , was published under the pseudonym John Jay Wells in 1963 in the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction . In the following years she wrote over a dozen novels and two series, namely the fantasy series Krantin (2 vols., 1978 and 1980) , which has also been translated into German, and the family space opera Children of the Stars (4 vols., 1981 until 1989). In addition to the science fiction works, she wrote a number of fantasy and horror novels.
She is a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America (SWFA) and was the editor of the SFWA Forum for two years .
In addition to her literary work, she is a recognized and excellent filk singer and songwriter.
